You had Ho-oh for North America, Moltres for South America, Cresselia for Australia, Zapdos for Africa, Lugia for Europe, Arcticuno for Antarctica, and Rayquaza for Asia. There was an 8th Guardian, Kyogre, the Guardian of the Seas. Together, these 8, chosen above all the rest, worked with the humans to ensure this peace and keep the balance between the Pokemon world and the world of the humans.
But like all else, all good things come to an end. Power and greed over took Lugia. He became so corrupted that the balance of the world shifted. Natural disasters were widespread. The climate was all out of whack and the world was heading for an untimely end. The Guardians knew what had to be done. They were put in charge to make sure a day like this had never come, but it was one of them that had brought this day upon the world. And they were going to end it. They made the ultimate sacrifice. The remaining 7 Guardians combined their powers in one final effort to rid the world of the greed of Lugia, but in the process, rid the world of themselves and their extraordinary power.
But all was not lost. The people and the worlds were saved. The Guardians had done their job. From their ashes came a new crop of Guardians, but not Pokemon, a select group of children, who are entrusted with the power of preserving the peace and stability of their own world, as well as the world of the Pokemon. These guardians are now human beings, like you and me, not above us, not below us. Walking amongst us, they ensure that all is well, and so the Risen Warriors were born.
